About Me

I'm a 26-year-old journalist currently based in Nairobi Kenya. I arrived in August 2010 and will remain here for eight months reporting for the Nation Media Group, Africa's largest homegrown media house. Their newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations rule the media markets in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. I'll be starting off at their flagship paper, The Daily Nation.

I'm here thanks to the support of the Aga Khan Foundation of Canada, who generously granted me a fellowship to further my international correspondency.

After finishing my undergrad studies in journalism and politics at Carleton University, I began working as a reporter in Ottawa. The next two years I spent covering Canadian foreign affairs, development, defence and the Afghan war at Embassy, Canada's foreign policy newsweekly, and writing the weekly Chatter House column. I later moved on to The Hill Times, Canada's politics and government weekly, where I covered the Harper Tories, the Prime Minister's Office and staffer news through the Hill Climbers column.

I proudly hail from Canada's Atlantic coast. New Glasgow, Pictou Country, Nova Scotia to be precise.

I've got the travel bug big time, and have lived/worked/studied in France, Switzerland, Thailand, Japan, Washington DC, and now Kenya!
